Maybe a Book is Great
When it’s sold many copies
When it’s truth must be heard
When it’s read without stopping
Laughing at the absurd
When it provokes strong feelings
And makes readers cry
When it changes and twists
Because it starts with a lie
When it tells a true story
And leaves us in awe
When we read without stopping
Our emotions left raw
When all tell us to read it
But don’t want to say
Why they think it was great
Cause they’d give it away
One thing is certain
No matter the season
Critics tell their opinion
That isn’t a reason
But the greatest of measures
Is to look at yourself
Did it change who you are?
Is it proudly put on your shelf?
